Volunteer Work
Local Election 2023.
In August 2023, I worked voluntarily for a local group to help them create an eye-catching logo for their candidate who will be up for election on November 7, 2023. The candidate wanted a blue and white palette and their mission was to focus on trust, community, and family. This individual is running for Area 2 Trustee for the City of Shasta, CA. Before I began to sketch, I researched a little about the city and noticed that the city logo has a landscape of Mount Shasta residing over Shasta Lake, so to nod to that, I decided to sketch out a few ideas with a similar landscape in mind (see left). Highlighted, are the two designs the group chose to have digitally rendered.
Options & Variations
Working in Adobe Illustrator, I created the two options with multiple versions for the second. The candidate wanted to have only blue and white colors, so I crafted a new color palette and played with different forms of contrast and shapes. Also, between the two options, I worked to show different types of banners, one being more organic and the other more geometric.
Final Logo.
After receiving feedback from the group lead, I took Option 2, Version 1, and finalized it for the final logo design. This design will be used on signage and virtually for social media posts and emails so I gave the group formats of the logo in PNG, PDF, and JPG. In addition to the logo, I also designed a campaign sign with the logo, see on the left.
Local Recall.
Gateway Unified School District is a district located in my hometown, Redding, CA. A relative reached out to me asking for a graphic for a recall on two board members with the district. After hearing her appeal and what was happening, I gladly volunteered to create a recall graphic for their organization. On the left is the logo for the school district and I used this logo as a beginning point when designing the graphic.
Ideation
From discussions we had, I gathered that this logo was in regard to a recall, and it was crucial to their efforts that it stand out and emphasize a type of emergency situation. For that reason, I decided to make the graphic primarily bright red. Using Adobe Illustrator, I recreated the graphic in a new way.
Final Graphic.
For the final graphic, I added a drop shadow as well as changed “Vote Yes on Recall” to “Sign The Recall” since this was more of a petitioning matter than a count of votes. This graphic emphasizes urgency and the organization was very happy with it.
Volunteer Work: Events
Butte County Democratic Party
As part of my internship with Chico State University, I created various graphics for events for the Butte County Democratic Group in 2021. Each design was created for sharing on social media as well as print applications.
Here Comes the Sun
Here Comes the Sun was an event held by the Democratic Action Club of Chico in order to solicit donations that would go towards funding for the 2022 political year. The club organized a dinner with entertainment and wanted a graphic with information on it for both Instagram and Facebook. On the top is the Facebook banner and the bottom is the Instagram ad for both posts and stories. All of the information displayed was required, including other vendors. All work was accomplished using Adobe Illustrator.
Dia De Los Muertos
In preparation for Dia De Los Muertos, the party had me design a graphic to let people local to Gridley, CA know about the celebration. At the time, the City Councilman who was in charge, was trying to gather signatures to host the event on the main street. Unfortunately, not enough signatures were collected so the event never took place and this ad for Instagram never went out for public viewing. Regardless, I am proud of this design. I used analogous and complementary colors to help everything stand out. I also included my own illustrations in the background and found a suitable typeface to celebrate the holiday. All work was accomplished using Adobe Illustrator.
Sweet September
Sweet September is an annual fundraiser that the party holds each year to celebrate success and gather donations for wrapping up the year. I was asked to design a graphic along with social media ads to help get out the word. On the upper left is the PNG ad for Instagram which was also printed for signage via a PDF version, on the upper right is the Facebook post ad, and on the bottom is the Facebook banner for the event. I created the graphic first, in Adobe Illustrator and then I created the individual pieces in Illustrator as well.
